One great way to keep our tech savvy families healthy!

Hands up smartphone, tablet and android addicts! If your arm is way above your head right now, then welcome to my world! I pretty much organise my life on my smartphone. I take it everywhere I go, I’m ashamed to admit but it even comes with me to bed, while I’m cooking and even (sighs) to the bathroom!

Then there is my six year old daughter who’s so tech savvy she can work her way around my phone faster than I can. She loves to play games and of course watch endless toy video clips on YouTube, its almost become her favourite toy (within time limits of course).

Even my one year old picks it up, often going straight for the mouth leaving her slobber all over it. And don’t get me started on Dad! I’m wondering if he’s had his phone surgically implanted onto his hand at times!

With all this use of these devices in our home I started to wonder how clean can they actually be? I’ve never considered myself a germophobe but I am a stickler for washing hands, so I’ve been wondering…

‘I’m using this thing all day long, there’s a pretty good chance others have used it too, I’m taking it into the bathroom and washing my hands meticulously but whose cleaning my smartphone?’

As ever when I get a bee in my bonnet about something I had to have a quick scour of the internet on the subject. I was astonished to read news articles from FOX news and CBS news stating that our phones are indeed contributing to making us ill! Phrases such as ‘ touch screens are petri dishes ‘ and ‘mobile phones are covered with up to 18 times more bacteria than a toilet handle!’ YUK!

“A recent study from the Journal of Applied Microbiology says viruses can easily be transferred from nonporous glass surfaces, such as the touch screen of an iPhone, up to 30 percent of a virus can be transferred from the screen of your device to your fingers.”

I am lucky that both my kids tend to avoid the doctors surgery but they still get snotty noses and sickness bugs and anything they get – I get too! As any Mum will tell you, us parents cannot afford to get ill while looking after small humans. With daily use of these devices going on in my home I’d really prefer to avoid smartphone related sickness.  Both of the news articles I mentioned above suggested using an electronic antibacterial wipe to remove bacteria from the surface of the phone. But then I run the risk of my children ingesting chemical preservatives, which as I’ve mentioned in my ‘a safer sunscreen’ post, is something I strive to avoid!

When I found PhoneSoap on instagram and read about thier phone sanitising device I could not resist trying it out! The PhoneSoap 2.0 device uses UV-C light which stays contained within the box to sanitise the phone. It is the same technoloy that hospitals are using at the moment to keep equipment germ free! Not only does it look smart it also charges my phone while it does it’s job and only takes 3-5 minutes to kill 99.9% of nasties that could be lurking on my phone.

It’s a bit like a mini tanning booth for my phone, but I think it’s pretty cool that I can also sanitise daily use items such as my car keys! Frankie my youngest daughter loves to gnaw on these most days. (yep we bought her the pretend ones to try and distract her but she somehow finds a way to retrieve my car key!)

The design is smart looking and doesn’t look out of place in our home with all of our other gadgets! I can easily feed my phone charger through a section at the back and is safely charges while it deals with the germs!

In a never ending bid to keep bugs at bay, in a busy family home that has pets and people in and out constantly. A device that looks good and is so simple, yet effective at making my most used gadget germ free, gets a huge thumbs up from me!

Of course germs and viruses will always be around. However, if I can help my family to stay healthy and continue to keep my kids out of the doctors surgery in a non-toxic way then I absolutely will!

PhoneSoap will be running a fab White Friday promotion from the 22nd until the 25th November 2017, offering a 34% discount where the PhoneSoap 2.0 is on offer for 195 AED instead of 295 AED and the XL device is on offer for 295 AED instead of 440 AED! So bag yourself a bargain and keep those nasty bugs off your beloved smart devices!
